Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO (Rakuten FWT), organized by the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO), continued with bold storytelling and cultural exchange as the Spring/Summer 2026 season moved into its fourth and fifth days.
On Thursday, FDMTL marked its 20th anniversary with “Echo of [ ],” a collection rooted in denim and indigo. Designer Gaku Tsuyoshi reimagined familiar silhouettes through patchwork, deconstruction, and heavily distressed denim, while indigo-dyed Vans from his ongoing collaboration grounded the looks. At the heart of the show, band ichikoro—featuring Enon Kawatani—performed live, amplifying the collection’s reverberating energy. Adding to the celebration, JFW’s 20th Special Ambassador, actor Hio Miyazawa, attended in a full FDMTL look, underscoring the milestone moment.
Friday’s shows highlighted diversity and introspection. PH MODE x TYO by Manila Fashion Forward bridged Filipino creativity and Japanese textile innovation, presenting works by .ARCHIVES, ALODIA CECILIA, Maison Métisse, and Uttrykk. Sustainability shone through banana fiber and coconut-based fabrics, while post-show displays and traditional food celebrated Filipino culture. Later, Mitsuru Okazaki’s “GOBLIN.” offered a poetic take on resilience inspired by The Alchemist, with garments marked by symbolic cutouts, gold embroidery, and delicate stitching.
Closing the day, Chika Kisada presented “Trace,” a study of the body’s memory through fragmented silhouettes, crushed fabrics, and torn details. Accessories like toe-shoe bags, piercing-adorned mules, and playful cat charms balanced her sharp, avant-garde vision. Together, Days 4 and 5 underscored Tokyo’s unique place in global fashion—a space where heritage, experimentation, and emotion intertwine.
